Frequently Asked Questions about Spas and Pools

Popular Questions about your Spa

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • My spa won’t heat.

This is a very common problem. No matter what brand of spa you have, Signature, Cyclone, Oasis, Designer, Sapphire, etc. they all have the same basic concept. Water is pumped or drawn through a heater tube which heats the water. The type of pump used can vary from a small circulation pump, such as Balboa, Aquaflow, Spanet. To a very small pump such as Laing. To more budget spa’s which use a 2-speed pump, they use the low speed for heating and filtering and the high speed for massage. The most common brands are Balboa, Aquaflow, Davey. These issues can be caused by clogged filters, pumps or the controller.

  • My Spa keeps tripping the power.

All spas should be protected by a circuit breaker and an Earth leakage device.

The breaker will trip when the current rating has been exceeded.

The earth leakage device will trip when it detects more than 30ma of earth leakage.

This can be caused by blowers, pumps, controller issues and other reasons

  • Some of My Jets are not working.

This can be caused by a faulty pump or controller. It can also be caused by a jet being turned off.

Most jets can be turned on or off by turning the jet left or right. In certain brands of spas, Signature, Designer, Leisurerite, Cyclone and Bullfrog, the jets will get a build-up between the jet body and the jet face. This makes the jet very difficult to turn or may lock the jet in one spot.

The other cause is a large diverter may be diverting water to other seats. To be sure this is not the problem, turn all the diverters to the centre position. This will allow water to go to both sets of jets. Note: Some spas may not have a diverter and some can have more than one.

  • I am not getting any bubbles in the spa.

There are 3 types of bubbles in a spa.

The main type is by use of a blower. By pressing a button on the touchpad a blower will start,( much like a vacuum cleaner ) this pushes air through air injectors into the spa.

Causes for a blower not working are a faulty blower or controller.

Another type of bubbles are produced when a pump is running and the air control for the area is turned on. Most spas have multiple air controls which operate certain groups of jets.

Causes for these not operating are faulty air controls or faulty jets.

The last type of bubbles are created by the filtration system. There is normally a small jet which has small bubbles and water coming out. A mazzie draws air from the ozone unit of the spa and pushes it out an ozone jet. This is a handy way to know if your spa is filtering and heating.

No ozone bubbles can be caused by clogged filters, faulty filtration pump, mazzie issues or the controller.
